Fun Fishies

OK, did the T P technique again using Alizarin Crimson and Prussian Blue .  took a couple of days to decide what to add to it.. Some 'artists' just put the background out there and call it an  abstract .. not me..  WE NEED SUBJECT MATTER...   i have painted these guys a couple of times but these turned out almost mystical.  i only used 3 pigments plus white..   WHAT FUN.....

Lady o the Lake #2 9-14-22 Sold at Gallery4

What a fluke this is.  I was making greeting cards and my printer ran out of ink while printing the "Lady of the Lake" painting.  the result was so neat but not customer worthy, if you know what i mean...  ANYWAY, i thought about a theme we will be having at Gallery4 next year: Stripes. Wah Lah   this was born in watercolor.
7-21  Well, i did a little "redo" on this one.  not sure if it was good or bad.  Wasn't that happy with the stripes but love the boats..  Added a few "ripples" in the water/  Going to be for anther theme wall titled Reflections.  surprise, surprise

Cold as a W. T. Sold at Cormorant Show

I "borrowed " this image from a watercolor painting i did over 40 years ago,  Love the buildings..  painted canvas cobalt blue first which really makes the snow look cold.  i fell in love with the grey sky so minimized the tree action. It is weird that i can so love a part of a painting.   now need a free frame.. ha

Joy and Paw Prints Gifted to cuz John-Julie

8-22  So over the COVID references,  Thought I'd add a people pleasing touch to this one.  and will change the title, as well.

5-17-23  This time I got rid of the snow, changed the roof tiles and added loose flora. Love acrylics.

Jan 2022,  Gallery4 theme wall next month is Cabin Fever.. why not?  i had fun adding snow to this piece.  All i had to do was look out the window at the houses across the street.  Winter has hit us hard here in Fargo, den.
Title says it all.  My kids gave me some new acrylics for my b'day.. had to give them a try. This painting evolved from the window outward and onward.  I used fewer colors, as usual, and it was fun.  Had to have a white frame..

6"x 6" Delights

Enjoyed painting these gems. i painted the canvases solid colors first.  For the truck one, I sprayed the damp paint with H2O and then rolled toilet paper over..  i know, toilet paper is not an art supply item but it is in my studio.
I usually don't "do" flowers but this was fun. I have a lot of photos i've taken over the years... lots of years, lots of photos....
Purple flowers sold at Gallery 4..
9-24-21  Daisy Mae sold today while i was there..
2-22  the Iris sold, as well..

Emma's Switchback gifted to Emma, via UPS

I used a photo that was sent by my Oregon hiking family. They were hiking trails on Mount Hood. I painted the canvas purple first and of course wanted to save some of it.  I battled with the trees on the Right side, ugh.  What is happening to me doing out door landscapes all of a sudden???

Gray Panes 8-21 Sold at Gallery4

Painted this acrylic yesterday.  It was fun as i first painted the canvas Perm Rose, which has a life of it's own.  i used only yocher (what i call yellow ocher), natural grey, cobalt, Umber and of course, white. Oh and Quin Gold, which i love.
I just want to be able to go shopping and hug the kids. Not in that order, of course..

Table Rocks & Purple Bridge Quick Sale.. Traded to Grandson, Sam, for tree trimming...

I painted on this all week, it's my plein air attempt from in my studio, ( i was outside when i took the photo i used for reference, does that count???  )  I really don't like outside much.
i discovered again how much fun using my palette knife is.  this is acrylic and larger than what i have been doing lately. I used a limited palette and mixed my greens (that sounds like i made a salad--  NOT ).
Photo was taken in N.Carolina when i attended my nephew's wedding,
The bridge wasn't purple in real life.

Gallery 4

Well, i decided to join Gallery 4 as a premiere member.  I hope i can hold up my end of the deal.  It is exciting to hang in the main gallery and have things in the gift shop.  altho with the pandemic going on there aren't a lot of customers. I did sell "Open Toed" while i was hanging my art last week.  Ego boost..
Art Lovers beware.   ha.

Blue Bottle

TIme to do a redo.  enlarged the flora and grass and got rid of the black window shade.  Wish i was better at photographing my work.. ugh

My friend, Gretchen D, gave me some wonderful frames..  SO, guess what<  one was 12x12 and i happened to have a canvas that size, wah la.. Reference:  I used a photo of a w/c painting i did in the 90's . it is completely different 'cause of size, medium and arrangement of the subjects, OTHERWISE>
i may have to make the flowers larger..  i wonder..
7-30-20  i decided to mess around some more with this painting..  added some yellows and blues,  See the difference???  Tis better...      1-3-21   I changed the title..

Hold Tight SOLD to my God son, Nick

The precious photo, used for my reference, has been cherished in Carl's family probably since the 30's when his mother took it. These are Carl's two older sisters. Their personalities are already showing through. (I won't go there, ha)  It's done is watercolor on some weird paper i found in my stash..  love it.
I changed the title cause i entered it in a show and that is the title i used..  titles are very important to me, as are chocolate, sleep, my phone, art and my family..  not it that order, of course.

Lunch Boy

As i am going thru old photos, i found a photo of this Pastel i did in the 90's.. It has hung in my son's home since and is faded some.  As much fun as Pastels are to use, they are not easy to frame and apparently they fade away without fixative.

Real photos, as it were....

Wow, going thru the box of photos of earlier paintings has turned into a memory boost..  i painted the top one in 2000 in acrylic, the other one is earlier in watercolor.  i remember taking the photo, i used for reference, years ago.. the photo was mostly of the geese as they covered a harvested field near where i grew up (Dresden, ND )   seems like the grain elevators moved apart but Hiltner's big house and the stone church were important. ..and i'm sure the land was flat.

rather useless project

No, i am not painting during this quarantine . Just not in the mood, which is sad.  But I am going thru old photos and papers.  I have many many photos of my earlier paintings.. can't bear to toss them SO I am making small greeting cards with them.  what fun.
My family and friends will not be inviting me to their b'day parties or weddings, cause guess what they will get????

Purple Faire

I've been painting on this for a week.  struggling with background decisions.. i had sketched this from a book (can't remember why or when) .   i wanted it more watery & drippy, but my control genes kicked it.  Photo is paler than original..

Damn Pandemic

Well, today i cancelled my airline tickets for my trip to see family in Nashville and to Emma's graduation in Portland.  I also didn't make my bed or put on a bra.  Also ate a bag of cashews i had been hoarding   and i seem to have no desire to paint.  i have been putting some of my acrylic pieces in the window, it looks cool and folks can't see me lounging in my recliner all day.

Hocus Pocus Crocus

May '23   FF (you know, Free Frame??)   Granddaughter found this perfect frame at an estate sale..this painting has been around the block, so to speak..  I chopped it and stewed over it for a couple of weeks.  It's  11 x14 now..rather than 16 x 20.
8-11-21..I had this hanging at Gallery4 but just didn't like it.. took it home and revisited the flora images and added some "Acrylic Snow"  SO much better.  That dark rusty colored area really was ugly.

Well, my first watercolor of 2020.I just got home from spending 2 1/2 months in Oregon.  they get spring pretty early and i photographed these beautiful little guys on my walk in Wade's neighborhood. i added the blobs of snow to add variety to the background.
I flew home just as the Corona virus pandemic scare started...  eek. How will this end?
