Really Huge Floral SOLD

This painting has gone thro many, many changes. It started out with all the flowers the same color and the vase was glass.. i tried very hard to put the stems in that vase.. ugly, ugly. I had stamped the back ground with acrylic paint and really liked it. I colored up the flowers and fixed the vase.. wah lah, a really huge floral.. SOLD

old red bike GIFTED

I sketched and started this little painting at my "Thursday art group" and finished it when i got home that day.. I used an old photo of a rusty, neglected old Hiawatha bike, that i had taken in the bush somewhere.. since i haven't been in the bush lately.. who knows.?? I love the red against the green fence. Do newer bikes have that old spring under the seat? Doubt it...

Gift to niece Becky

"Tennessee Waltz sold

My parents: My Dad loved to play the violin and my Mom loved him. I used a photo, taken by my brother, Paul, during their visit to his home in Tennessee, to paint this. Their favorite song was always "The Tennessee Waltz". This painting is a tribute to them and the good life and morals they shared with my brothers and me. There are tears.........
SOLD to my bro, Ken.

Pots and Plants SOLD IN HAWLEY

This is a result of a "paint out" with the watercolor society in 2007. We went to a nursery and it was 95 degrees that day. This arrangement of pots was in the hot house, obviously I took a snapshot (after I had sketched it) and finished it at home in the A/C. I won a merit award and sold it at a show last year.

Street Fair Folks gifted

This painting is a collaboration of 4 photos I have taken visiting street fairs. I couldn't resist painting the man on the left, as he looked even sillier in real life. I can hear the 2 ladies "tsk, tsk-ing" as they observed the entertainment.
This work was a gift to some dear friends.

Apple Basket SOLD

I painted this years ago during a 2-hour workshop using the Seurat's pointillism style, only with me it was more square-illism. I later "colored the painting up" with stamping and more pigment. Tell me the truth, are the apples a little too shiny? Maybe if i painted one 1/2 eaten, it would be more appealing...... sold

Back Home

It has been a week since i returned from my wonderful weekend in North Carolina, attending my nephew, Pete Geisen's wedding. It was a great weekend, with parties, dinners, dances, tours, golf, brunches planned for the whole time. Loved it.
I didn't read the invite very well as i thought it was to be held at a place called Rambling Waldo.. (It was at Rumbling Bald Resort, where some scenes from "Dirty Dancing" were filmed) .. anyway, I told a lady on the plane about Rambling whatever and she had never heard of it. She was from Charolette, NC.. Must learn to keep my mouth shut.
Best part of the trip was reconnecting with my 4 brothers and their wives, plus nieces and nephews, that I don't see very often. Sons, Matt and Wade and families were also there.. it was wonderful. Pete and his wife, Emily, were so elegant and their first dance was so 'cool' ------ let's hope it doesn't end up on YouTube..

"Dancing with the Folks" SOLD

This watercolor painting was so much fun to do. Nostalgia all over the place. Elders like to dance too, don't you know. And you can bet the music is good.
SOLD

" The Coneflowers Out Front" DONATED

Painted our coneflowers last summer in watercolor. Love the brick as a background. Not really a "flower" painter but occasionally these small florals come in handy.

For what, you ask?
Donated to Atonement Church Auction.. 3-11

"Old Golfers Never Die, They Just Dress Funny" DONATED

I painted this many years ago and recently revised it using some acrylics plus I did a sex change on the one with the yellow skirt. It originally was of 2 men visiting and I had entitled it "It must be your birthday, your farts smell like cake"
Not nice, but funny??? I donated this to the Pekin Art Auction.

Flowers, Squared SOLD

I took a "plein air" (painting outside) workshop last year.. I painted inside!! someone had brought a bouquet of flowers and i painted them and added the dark square afterwards and that really made the painting special. A sweet friend purchased it last weekend.
SOLD

"The Demise of Emil's Place" SOLD @ 7-day clinic 3-14..

This is a watercolor of a childhood neighbor's farm as it was being demolished. I loved the blue and orange walls and the North Dakota sky. It is a reminder of what has happened to so many farms in rural America.  6-5-13 I took this painting our of the frame and added a lot of color, esp the sky. I was going to paint a new painting on the back but I really like it now and will probably exhibit it as something new??? ya' think??
SOLD

"Breakfast always tastes better with a cap on" SOLD

The object of this watercolor is to tell a story.. a small town story. It was so fun to paint the cinnamon rolls and coffee cups.. In my heart, I believe that their wives are still in bed.. let's hope so!! The cook does not look happy.
It received Best of Show in the Jamestown, ND art show this spring. Juror was Walter Piehl Jr., no less.......
Sold at Pekin show June 2010

Lone Chair

WOW! i just figured out how to move these photos after they are cropped... ignore next statement..(i have cropped these photos but when they are moved to this site the go back to original.. oh well, i am pleased i can do this much...)
I did this watercolor last week, from a photo i had taken 10-15 years ago while antiquing in Minnesota Lake Country.. meant to make a quilt on the chair but my mind wouldn't let me.. so we have pink/purple!!

Iris 3 GIFTED

If I do paint flowers, they are flowers that i have met personally in our yard. This small watercolor was done this summer at the peak of bloom. Tried to "save the whites" of the paper..
Wedding Gift

Veggie Boy SOLD

I painted this from a photo i took at a paint out on a farm about 10 years ago.. He was a member's grandson and he undoubtedly grew up to be a farmer. His expression is comical, to say the least. I sold this painting at the Pekin, ND art show this year. whee!!
SOLD

The Repair Man Lost It ! !

Yes, yes, i know, tool belts don't match the sofa... geez, i painted it anyway. I took a photo of this lying on our driveway a long time ago. I don't remember what the fix-it man was fixing. I just love painting leather with watercolors and had a great time painting the gadgets, etc.
3/18/2011--REVISITED this painting and put in a dark background!!

The Home Place

Home is where the Heart is!! I entered a show and the theme was "home" so this painting was a must-do.. I took this photo when my folks had just moved off the farm. Back when they had painted the house red, it was like a beating heart on the prairie. Wonderful memories are stirred when I look at it.

Floral Cluster SOLD

I started this painting at an "art retreat" using a photo belonging to the instructor. I used the grid technique, as you can see if you look closely, using 3 colors. Blue, yellow-orange and violet.. finished at home. SOLD

"Lookin' her over" DONATED

Since I love painting oldish cars.. for this watercolor, I actually used a photo from the sports page (yes, the sports page)--of a car race-- i cleaned them up and used brighter primary colors. The gas station, pumps and people are from my imagination..

Donated to Pekin Art Auction

"Never too Young to do Chores" SOLD

I enjoyed painting this watercolor, using a very small black/white photo of my hubbie, Carl, and his uncle Leo. I loved experimenting with the reds on the barn and also attempting to make the painting look cold, like a winter morning.. I exhibited it in the Pekin, ND, art show and was awarded 2nd place in Watercolor Division. Oh and yes, Walter Piehl, Jr. was the Juror.. ahum!!
SOLD @ my reception..

Mountian Mike's Place SOLD

I painted this watercolor using a couple of photos I took on our last trip to Alaska. I enjoyed painting the rough logs in contrast to the smooth stripped logs in different cabins we visited. The clothing belong to our son, Mike, who lives in AK part time. I get a feeling of the wilderness when I look at it.. love it..

SOLD @ my reception.

excited about this

i learned tonight at the Red River Watercolor Soc meeting that it is easy to start an art blog.. we will see!!!
