Afternoon Delight SOLD

As I was looking thro my files to get the "Langdon Series" paintings, I found this one. One of my all time favorites. It was accepted into the RedRiver Watercolor Soc National Exhibition 5 years ago. It tells a story that could take place in Langdon, also.......... SOLD
For those of you that don't know, Langdon, ND is my home town... you may have guessed, if you are reading my blog.

The Presbyterian Church of Langdon SOLD

I was commissioned to do this painting.. Took photos myself, but had to find old photos of the steeple, which had been removed.
SOLD

UCT Hotel SOLD

"Langdon Series"
There were a lot of comments on this painting.. funny how more people remember the hotel than the Churches..
SOLD

St Alponsus School SOLD

I was able to capture this image from an old postcard i found in with my junk. This was b/4 the cafeteria was built onto the building. The nuns lived on the 4th floor. I remember being sent up there with a message once and peeked into one of their "cubes" where they slept -- dark, small, dreary.. .
I met Carl here under the evil eye of Sister St James. SOLD

St Alphosus Church SOLD

I like this painting a lot.. good old Catholic memories are coming back to me.. I do remember having to go to Mass every morning and one day, as I was going up the steps, I looked down and I had one black shoe and one beige shoe on.. and I am sure my hair was greasy..
"Good Morning, Sister," "Good Morning, Father"
SOLD

The Boyd Building donated

Boyd's? JCPenny's? Lots of memories in this building. It went up in smoke a few years ago. It was a landmark on Main Street, that is for sure.

LHS DONATED

The "old" Langdon Hi school building as I remember it from the 50's. Walking up the sidewalk to class are a football hero and a cheerleader from the past.. Cool!!

CourtHouse SOLD

"Langdon Series". I vaguely remember this beautiful building being tore down and replaced by a "modern" flat rather ugly building back in the early 50's.. I used some old photos in some memory book published long ago for this painting reference. SOLD

"Coming Soon" SOLD

This was my first attempt at starting to paint "Langdon" stuff. It has brought me great success, in fact, Carol H purchased it b/4 she saw it. Love that girl..
"The Fly" which I saw in the Roxy, scared the pants off me. Not literally, tho.
Gee, I noticed it is dated '99.. 10 years ago. Where does the time go??? SOLD

Roxy 2 SOLD

Yes, this was the second painting of the Roxy. I really had fun putting all those little light bulbs on there, then. I think I painted this in 2001 or so. I am so impressed that the theator was re-opened and is in full operation, thanks to some dedicated Langdon folks. SOLD

The Roxy 3 SOLD

Remember Swede?
The reason this is Roxy 3 is (dah) it was the 3rd time I painted the memorable old theator.. It proudly hangs in the Johnson abode in Langdon... SOLD

Cities Service SOLD

I have had some requests to include my "Langdon Series" paintings on my blog. I did most of them 5 or so years ago and they were a "hit" at the centennial celebration there. We all remember "fillin' her up" or just putting in 75 cents worth of gas at the end of Main Street.

Stuff Around the House in the 70's

I was looking thro old sketch books and found this sketch I had drawn 35 years ago or so. We still have this stuff around the house, except for the little goose. That was a time when we all had decorated our nests with crafty geese, remember??

Exhibit

During the month of November, my art will be exhibited at Elim Nursing Home here in Fargo, then. As my friend, Diane and I were hanging my paintings, there seemed to be a lot of excitement about the subject matter and the colors i use. Nostalgia rules in a nursing home.....

"Protrait of a Cement Truck" DONATED

This great old truck was parked in our neighborhood for a couple of days. Someone got a new driveway, I guess. Anyway, I sketched it and used some of my new watercolor paints that I had ordered from Cheap Joe's. I have a weakness for new tubes of watercolor. Need I say more????????  In 2010, I added some more colors to this painting..  esp the sky..
Donated to Pekin Auction 2014

"What, Me Worry??" SOLD at Edgewood 2017

"Mind, Body and Spirit" was the theme for a show I had entered. This dear lady depicts the worries, loneliness, problems of aging. I enjoy painting faces, hands, sweaters, quilts, purses, cups, hankies, etc. etc.

Twisted Pretty DONATED

I started this watercolor painting on a "paint out" a couple of summers ago. We went to a nursery and set up our easels, paints and snacks.. it was great fun. I painted, what i thought would be a fun, easy floral. It started out with red flowers with a dull background. I messed around with this picture for a long time.. had fun putting the circles and lines in the background. My friend, Bobbie, also an artist, suggested I make the flowers white.(using acrlyic paint) I then put the dark square behind.. it was a fun process. Donated to Lion's Club Auction.

North on Hwy 75 SOLD

Driving back from visiting our daughter and her family one Sunday, there had just been a good old Minnesota summer rain storm. And guess what? I had my camera. The sky was incredible and the pavement had many colors and shadows. I added the old vehicle for interest. This is an acrylic painting on canvas.

"The End of a Relationship" GIFTED

This is an acrylic painting--the background is done with stamping color over a darker hue. I had taken a photo of these trashcans about 30 years ago, they had weeds, mums, grass in them and i thought it would be fun to have the flowers look like fancy roses. This work has great colors in it.
Gift to a sweet niece in Alaska

"Whistler's Father" SOLD

I really love painting "folks" . I got this idea from a picture in an old farm magazine. In the picture he was reading, I think, but i felt that peeling potatoes would be appropriate.. I painted the stove, radio and wood pile from my memories of childhood.. oh, and the coal bucket. I sold this one at our annual 8th Street Show.

Fishing Cove SOLD

This is the other side of the painting "Asleep at the Wheel" It reminds me of some scenes we saw in Alaska. I really like this painting-- the sand and rocks were left from the original painting. I love to remodel and change some of my work. I sold this in Langdon a couple of years ago. yes, in Langdon...

"Asleep at the Wheel" DONATED

This started out to be a painting of a cliff and ocean.. i made 2 paintings out of one.. (cut it in half) .. I saw this jacket in a catalogue and made up the cowboy. I didn't really mean for him to look like he was asleep.. Love painting cowboy hats. I donated this to a "cause".. don't remember what.. kinda wish i had it back!!! So it goes!!
