Coneflowers on Gesso SOLD 3/15

I painted on this watercolor/gouache painting ALL day Sunday. I worked on an old piece of w/c paper that had medium on one side and splatters of gesso on the other.. Can't remember what workshop i had prepared this paper for.. The gesso was just on parts of the paper.. I attempted to paint on this paper @ the Park Rapids workshop, painting an ugly farm scene.. I washed it off and had an interesting background just waiting for me. I used a photo i had taken of Carl's cone flowers a couple of years ago. I added the 2 on the right of the painting to fill the page and they don't have the pazz-zazz the others do..Maybe they are from a different seed package.. who knows??
I added some Acrylic color to this painting.. mostly in the background.. trying to make it exciting.

"Winetester" SOLD

I was not happy with this painting... took it out of the frame and worked to make the "tester" more handsome and sleepy looking. Not happy with the title either.. Do love the orange inside the bar with the blue door frames, the red chairs, etc.
"Color Rules!!!" or is it "Colors Rule??"
SOLD @ my reception

Demo....

Oh, and Tuesday, I had the privilege of doing a "portrait painting" demo @ the Cormorant Art Club. Always fun to travel out there for an event.. fun group and fantastic meeting room.. I enjoyed, hope they did...

"honey, we missed the bus" revisited...

I had such a great time painting this.. i took a photo of this couple in downtown Portland this summer.. Tourists with their own lunch, i am sure. Anyway, the background evolved out of my mind .. wah lah, there seemed to be a bus outside the "window".. that they missed 'cause she is the boss and it was "time to eat"... so there ya' go!!

July, 2018 ,,, Dug this out of the pile, worked on the background.. . i still love this painting so much..a memory of our travels.. I know a lot of folks take photos of mountains, etc.. not me....

Blue Coffee Pots sold

I took a photo of my coffee pot collection years ago with Carl's daisies, I drew it into my sketch book a while back during my sketching/drawing frenzy. This is painted in Acrylic on stretched canvas, that i had painted bright orange. The painting is brighter than the photo, in real life.    MARCH 2013...  During our 3rd or 4th 3-day blizzard i started to redo older paintings...  i really got carried away with this one..  i really like it even tho it is QUITE BRIGHT ..
SOLD @ the Langdon 125th Event...

Thanks, Janet Flom, for the inspiration and fun...

Face Painting

I really enjoyed face painting on Saturday, but it was a cold, cold day.. Such darling kids came to have "works of art" painted on both of their sweet cheeks, arms & noses.

"Pot, Bottle, & Poppys"

This started as a 'demo' @ the Walhalla class in watercolors.. it was pretty pathetic.. I painted on it all day yesterday using some of the technics i showed them. Washes, salt application, shading, putting spots of color where you don't expect them... it turned out a little wilder that i thought it would.. i also dismissed some of the suggestions i gave the class.. we won't talk about that!!!.. but I love the background..

I didn't like the space between the subjects.. so  Wah-la I added the old blue bottle that i have painted many times plus some grapes on the left.. like it so much better.  Isn't art fun???

"Red car Turned Blue"

The red color always bothered me on that car.. I have painted more on this painting than any other I have done. I LOVE the background on this so i hate to just give it up.

I will be exhibiting at a local coffee/lunch place called Josie's for a couple of months..

I donated this to the Nelson Co Arts Council for their 2013 art auction..  the committee liked it so much they used it for publicity purposes.. i was thrilled and honored, of course.

I see why teachers have sore feet..

I just returned from a trip "up north" to teach a Basic Watercolor class. There is a great group of folks in Walhalla, ND, that enjoy painting together weekly and that are able to use a deserted building to display and sell their wares.. I so enjoyed them and they seemed to "hang" on every word i said.. they did some great stuff and i'm hoping they will be hooked on watermedia paints from now on...........

Little girl, Taylor

Twin sister to Kennedy, only with brown eyes and curly locks.. a delight to paint..

Little girl, Kennedy..

This is a commission i did for friends. This is their granddaughter, Kennedy.. she is beautiful and enjoyed painting her, from several photos.

Workshop

Just finished a week long workshop in Moorhead..It was so fun.. My pal, Bobbie, stayed with us and also attended the class. We knew most of the artists in the class and that was fun and familiar. Our instructor was Marilyn Hughey Phillis from Wheeling WV.. She was a delightful lady who had us do several exercises that we hadn't done b/4.. all attempting to get us to "think and feel" our work. and not to paint to sell or satisfy others.. we will see!!!!!!!
"Abstract Art being our goal" enjoyed it and actually have no work to post..

Iris with Dots

The 3rd of my "square format" paintings.. what fun, altho this one started out to be a rusty color which looked a little like poop.. covered it with violet mixture.. ah, better. May have gotten carried away with the dot thing, but if you know me, i would paint eyelashes on an ant.......

Sunshine

this is my 2nd try @ the iris'.. white is a challange but the pink hairy "tongues" sticking out of the white flower was unresistable to me. these paintings are 8"x 8"

Gift

Curvy and Delicious

Hubbie, Carl planted over 50 iris bulbs last summer that he ordered from "Gene in Pekin".. They are SO beautiful, i am going to try to capture them in Acrylic on those square wrapped canvas' i have coveted in the art stores. i drew the flower in the contour manner.. which made them more curvy and delicious... fun.......

Winter Project SOLD

I know, I know, no one wants to see snow again for a l-o-n-g time... i used a photo i took @ Elim nursing home when i was there hanging my show .. and the snow outside the window is what pulled me into the scene ... there was a bouquet of "funeral flowers" on the sewing machine but i thought a quilt was more appealing..

This is watercolor on gesso-ed watercolor paper. A different surface to work with...

"Who Invited Her?"

I enjoyed drawing these pretentious gals in pencil.. i used a photo i had cut out of the newspaper years ago.. i have many titles going around in my head: "Church Ladies" "Need a 4th for Bridge!!" "Who told her she could wear that??" "The Clique"...

We are having a mini-art display @ the Hjemkomst Center using just black and white medium, and this is my contribution.

We are getting more snow tonight.. i know that had nothing to do with my blog theme, i just felt that i should share..

I was so lucky to get in on a fun acrylic workshop in Cormorant Village, MN, last week.. several of us "arteests" got to leave the flooding behind for a couple of days and play with "color"..

I have painted the car so many times trying to make it look good.. something seems to be wrong with it.. now it is blue

Hung out to Dry!! Donated to benefit 4-14

Oh, i did start this at our Thursday painting get-together.. i added the grass and shadows yesterday, awaiting the rain, sleet, thunder, wind, lightening, snow storm we had last night..

May 30, (After showing this to fellow artists, they thought I should add some shapes and interest in the background 'cause i had 3 straight lines across the painting.. not interesting... so i dabbled in some trees and clouds.) Oh and there are tornado warnings today.

I wanted to entitle it "A Quilt, 3 Shirts and a Pair of Pants".. a little long for a painting that took me 45 minutes to paint..
March 2013...  this painting seemed to be quite unsuccessful.. plus I needed the frame it was in..  I cropped it and added a yellow sky.. chopped off the ugly quilt .. put it in a smaller frame and it looks good, i must say.

Toolbelt (revisited..) DONATED

Once again, I took an old painting and put in a great background .. my intention was to make the background look " leather-ly" or "cement-ly" .. i think it worked OK...

I haven't painted for awhile and my inventory is at a "all time" high.... but I WANT to paint more.... lucky me!!! Donated to Pekin Auction

Tulips in a Ball Jar V SOLD

OK, i didn't really like the "Just a Barn" painting very much.. i scrubbed the paint off and had some faint images and color left on the paper.. I have painted these tulips b/4, many years ago (I have been painting for a l-o-n-g time).
I really like the background shapes and colors..

"Buffet Broads" sold 10-'15

This is taken from a photo i took at our "RRWS picnic with hats" this summer.
On the photo there were potato chip sacks and tupperware thingys.. i made up the buffet items and was hungry afterwards.
3/2014.. I revisited this painting and worked on the background and cropped it some.. replaced the photo.. tried, anyway..

"Lookin' her over" revisited DONATED

Once again, i am redoing older paintings.. a fun pastime for us "snow stayers".. the original painting was posted in Oct '09--
I "wiped out" 3 figures, added a 1/2 hidden old car and put tops on the gas pumps.. Carl told me they needed to have those circle tops on and he told me size, color and all i needed to know about them.. I also added more color in some areas.. Love those cars............. Donated to Pekin fundraiser

"Rust In Peace!" SOLD

I am still having a "love affair" with the old car photos my friend Margaret gave me. The car on the right is from the sketch i used as my Christmas card this year. Love the shadows that were on the car next to it.. As usual I have trouble with background.. but that seems to be the area my art friends like best . altho one "critic" asked if they were in a tent... Note: I just added the 'ghost cars' in the background... ??

Sold @ Langdon's 125th Celebration

Another winter day and another older painting hit the dust.. I decided to use the matt and frame off this work for a newer painting.. I have shown this painting at shows, sales, etc, for about 4 years........ i splashed some purple on the sky (it was pale blue) and wah lah, it has some zip.. Now I have go out and buy another frame and matt.. so it goes. I enjoyed it..
