10-21-21  Gifted back to me to donate to my Grandson, Sam's Benefit Auction.  which was a huge success, i might add.

"Need More Cowbell ?" Gifted

What next? you ask?...  i have saved a Christmas card i sent to my Dad about 25 years ago, (he saved it first)  i always put it up when i decorate for holiday..  I sketched and painted it yesterday ( on his birthday), in acrylic.   The original had holly tied to her horns, i planned to put a crown of flowers on her head, but went with the cowbell instead.  background is a lot of stamping with iridescent gold paint and hunter green..

Merry Berries

I painted this at the RRWS meeting last month.. Program Chair, Sandy, brought real fresh branches and berries. We drew around them on watercolor paper, which was a little weird, and then painted.  It was fun.
I've been binge watching "The Great British Baking Show" on Netflix and the cute lady judge's name is Mary Berry.. hence, my title...  Now i need to paint something and title it Paul Hollywood..  hubba, hubba..

Fat, Funny, Fish SOLD at Trinity Church show

Thanksgiving weekend, what do you expect me to do? Cook?
I painted this instead.  They are patterned after the painting i did for Matt and Pam a couple of years ago.  I just drew circles and gave them fishy personalities..   Acrylic on free canvases, of course...

"Where am I?" SOLD

Yes, my first blizzard painting of the season.  Awful weather out there for so early (Nov is early)..  This was fun, acrylic on one of those free little canvases..  I googled turtle paintings after i had sketched him, and they were all in the water with their front legs spread out..  I've never seen a turtle looking like those, this is mine..   with some color..

Evening at " da lake" Gifted to the Vettels..

This is why tons of Minnesotans have "lake places"..  i took the photo i used as reference, this summer at "da lake" with son, Matt's in-laws, the Vettels. We had stunning weather that week and great food.  Painted this in acrylic with the cruciform design in mind only with subject matter, a "must" in my creative soul.........

Here's Looking at You, KID... Sold @ Cormorant Show

This painting has been manipulated often..  T'was 3 pears and a whitish house, then it was 3 pears and the red barn..  So yesterday, i changed it again.  I heard that goats were trending (love/hate that word).  This was a hoot, looked at photos and paintings of goats, drew some, cut the drawings out and placed them in different positions..  smiling the whole time.   i just hope they don't look like cows or dogs.. they could, i guess.

"My bucket has a frog in it" repainted and Sold at Gallery4

Our art group watched a video of an artist painting an old weathered bucket ( he put a bird in his) .  I painted this using paint i had squirted out to paint the fence posts on my last painting.  Friend, Sharon, gave me some small canvases so there ya go.  fun..

"Farm Hands" -Award and SOLD in Pekin 6-21

1. I so enjoyed painting these guys, then.  Flesh tones are difficult in acrylic, i find.  Love their stances and hats and expressions ... I put the fence in after gazing at it for a week or so thinking "this needs more" to tell the story.
2.  I've been thinking about adding more to this painting.. yesterday, I added some grass and a bit of green to the guys..  Photo has some glare, eek...
 3.   Well, it is now 9-2020.  I plan to enter this in the Pekin Show but felt it needed more.  My son, Matt, has a good art eye, suggested i make the bottom yellow half darker.  I used my Quin Gold with a bit of Perm Rose ..  it was scary but i like it.

Art at the Lake, Northern Pines, Park Rapid, Art Camp.....

Just got home for another (my 10th ) weekend at Art Camp..  we have slowed down a bit since the first couple of years.  went to bed at 9 30 the first night..  Sandy Muzzy was our instructor again. She is a wonderful artist and teacher.  We did maps of our lives, which brought out a lot of stories, memories, childhood events, etc, all that made us who we are today.  wow, that is profound, huh???

Clothes "on line" 9-22 Sold at Gallery4

Painted this acrylic using only about 5 colors plus white.  i painted the undercoating with quin Rose..  Really bright pigment but i love it.   Resource for this was a photo I took in north Fargo on my way to a birthday party.  Was lucky enough to have a stop sign right there.  couldn't believe the clothes hanging right out there in the front lawn. Whoever the laundry person was didn't use clothes pins.. they were just draped over the line..  Well, ya' gotta have clothes pins...

Farming is for the Birds SOLD.. { first sale off my 9 year old blog.. }

Also discovered this hanging in basement..  it was painted in "83 in Acrylic  (actually had info on the back).  If I remember right, i originally painted the tractor green (we were John Deere people, don't ya know) but the painting needed some red..

Found in Basement.. painted in the 70s

I am hanging a show at Edgewood Vista today.  I haven't gotten my new paintings framed as yet..  I took a tour around the house and found 19 paintings that i haven't shown there, including these 2.  I'm sure i did these in the 70's and that they are done in oil.  Images are from 2"x 3" photos of my husband Carl ..  What a cutie..  They are NFS... (not for sale)...

The other paintings: Rooster was gifted to my niece, Becky..

We had a lot of laughter over these 2 paintings..  mostly because of the size of the onion and tomato.. looking a bit like body parts..  one thing lead to another and title "Veggie Porn"..
The rooster having one leg... well, they do that, i think..  anyway, i got in touch with my love for watercolor again.

"Wiry Bouquet"(gifted to friend) and "Ugly Beets"

here are 2 more attempts at being a "loose" watercolorist..   Pure white backgrounds don't photograph very well, i find.

Grace Haverty workshop (angry birds sold at Pekin) rooster was Gifted.. watering can sold at Gallery4 7-21

I so enjoyed the 3 day workshop at Cormorant Village.  Bobbie and I stayed with our friend Joan @ her lake place on Pelican Lake..  we had a great time, as usual, talking about our days in Langdon, raising our families.. and a few other things.....
I painted 8 paintings in watercolor .. whew..  Grace has a wonderful loose approach to the craft. We had taken workshops from her before but, of course, had forgotten the "loose application" concept and the luscious mixture of pigment and water lesson..  here are 3 of my paintings, anyway..

Sarah's passion..

My granddaughter's birthday was this month, as well, so I painted this for her in acrylic. She was pleased..  My kids and grandkids hosted a wonderful birthday party for me this weekend.  SO many friends and relatives came to eat a cake with a palette on it..  i am so lucky..

Hanging in there (Demo) 2-22 Donated to friend Chuck's benefit

Did a demo for the Hjemkomst group yesterday..  a technique we did in the RRWS workshop i took in June.  Lots of gesso on watercolor paper then lots of watercolor paint, then lift the paint to make the images..
I painted most of this when i got home, after i watched the late night Jimmys on Hulu, and before i went to bed.......

A blast from the past

I painted this in the mid 70's as a commission.. Owner of painting, Darlene, brought it to the Coffee Party last week and told a bit of its history.  This beautiful home is still in Langdon and they still live there.  So fun to see it again.  Done in oil and apparently i had just gotten a new fan brush..

Saturday, July 21, 2018

Just spent 4 days in my home town, painting with the residents at the local nursing home.  It was really fun, as i have 3 aunts and a sis in law living there. We painted bird images, which i had drawn on canvas boards ahead of time..  the main concern of folks this age is that we wasted paint at the end of the session by tossing the palettes in the garbage..  Acrylic dries up, folks, and it is difficult to put back into the tube, I've tried....!!!  ha.
The home also sponsored a coffee party for me and i was able to invite friends. and they showed up... . it was really fun.

Cormorant Art Show

I made it thru another 3 day art show and sale and drove home each night.  I so enjoy it and saw old friends and new.  I sold 65 of my greeting cards and only one painting. I did a watercolor demo on gessoed paper, Sunday morning.  Everyone must have been in Church, cause there wasn't anyone around to watch, which was OK by me.
There was enough ART at this show for everyone in the county to have a piece..  all beautiful stuff..
i'm getting too old for this..

More workshop 2018

Apparently there is a limit to the space in a blog post, who knew.
ANYWAY, we met a lot of new artists and enjoyed the artists we already knew.  Mark was an excellent teacher, paving the way for me to do an abstract, at least understanding the process, kinda....  We used a lot of gesso, gouache, yupo paper, stencils, stamps, rollers, etc.
We went out to dinner with thalo blue and quin rose fingernails..   doesn't that sound classy????

Workshop 2018

Friend, Bobbie, and I had a great time attending a 5 day workshop sponsored  by RRWS. Our instructor was Mark Mehaffey from Michigan ..  no, the real  Michigan state, not Michigan N Dak...

Shoe Sketch from the 80's

What a fun surprise in the mail.  a friend from my home town sent this back to me, made up on a new card.  I had sent it to her in 1982.  She even enclosed part of my letter. ( My handwriting has not improved.)
Thank you Darlene...... SO cool.

Long Stems revised and sold at CAAC show

Had this in a 'garden show" and just got it back.  i repainted the entire background and added more flowers and leaves.  SO much better.  it is Acrylic so i can redo, redo and repaint to my heart's content.  whee

Our Daily Bread Gifted to Kay

Oh my, this was fun.  Taken from a photo of my husbands parents in the 50's.. May enter this in the Rural show that is coming up this summer..  The photo had Carl posing between them but he was too cute and young to paint..  ha..

Barn-um and Bale-um.... Gifted to Pam

OK, this is what happened last week.. i attended a Cormorant Art Mini Workshop on painting in OILs.. i hadn't painted in oils for about 35 years.  it was luscious and fun.  Teacher, Sharon, was wonderful and provided photos, canvas, oil paint and mineral spirits. I really tried my best to swish the paint around on the whole work, like i did on the bales..  not easy.
Also, proud to say, the frame was unfinished and i applied tong oil, what ever that is, that i found in hubby's garage menagerie..

A Dry Spell

I've had this painting, of just the background, hanging in my studio since the Calvin deRuyter workshop 5 years ago.  always intended to add some buildings or something to it.  The Rural show is coming up at the Red Door Gallery so Wah La!... used white gouache to help out the watercolors i took directly from the tube..  what fun to remodel stuff o mine....originally it was posted on Sept 2, 2013
i don't believe anyone lives there anymore, a scenario seen more and more in the rural areas..

Glass Art Surprise SOLD at Pekin show

I painted this weird one about 8 years ago..  it had the large blown glass thingy that i had taken a photo of in Oregon @ a glass blowing studio...  Since it is Acrylic, i can do about anything to it .. it took me 2 days to change it.. i added the street scene, glass flowers and the Toad.. drawn from one of my glass frogs, that i collected, after i got tired of collecting shoes and nuns..
i adore the couple, for some reason..  didn't change them..  nothing like painting a blonde perm...
Painting, before i messes around with it, was posted Nov 29, 2013.

"Tweet over here, Tweet over there" 12-21-23 Sold at G4

5-17-23  once again i changed the background on this painting.  It's become one of those annual chores i have, to make older paintings more pleasant to look at.  ya think???

Oh goodness, call me a bird brain...  i had fun doing this.. the only true color is on the cardinal, i think..  also love the Tweeting aspect of it..   painted in acrylic which gave me the option to smear color all over the place..

10-18-21..  OK, Call me weird..  our theme wall at Gallery4 for Dec is "May Heaven and Earth Sing"//  Couldn't think of what to paint..  Birds Sing..  they don't just tweet..   I added some musical symbols and opened a couple of beaks.  wah la..

3-19-22  OK, you blog followers, if there are any, ...  i once again repainted this one.  I moved some tails. Modified and simplified the background .. i really enjoy revisiting my work.  My art work, that is. not dusting or cleaning or anything like that.

Bike Ride for Two SOLD

Going along with the Free Stuff..  i painted this image over another painting that had a lot of texture.. so it was a bumpy ride,  get it??? bumpy ride...  it is acrylic.. love the floating window idea.

Really? Flowers? Butterfly? GIFTED to Lori, across the street.

Spent a whole day on this image using photos i had taken back when we had flowers in our garden and yard, in other words, when my husband was here..  It looks better in this photo than it does in reality .. What more can i say?????   it is acrylic, by the way... gifted

We Are Sitting Ducks SOLD @ Gallery4

Painted this acrylic yesterday using a photo i took sometime on one of our trips..  Not that enthused about painting birds, but liked their stances..  i googled ducks to see what kind they were and WOW there are some colorful ducks out there.. these are wood ducks..so:
" what would a wood duck do if a wood duck would duck?"

Retired? From What?

Once again, i enjoyed sketching these folks from a photo of mine..  yes, that is us, Carl and Judi.. at a gathering at the lake probably 20 years ago..  Can't remember who the standing guy was but he fills the space nicely..

Daisies in a Pot Gifted to Ag...

Covered up a painting that a friend was going to toss..  "Gee, i can use that canvas" said I.  The stripes behind the pot showed thru and i kinda liked that...  Acrylic..

"wanna go for a drink? or stop and buy a flower?? new title is "Street Fair Exit" isn't that better???

I used the "paint a grid" technique one this one.. haven't done that in a long time.. as usual, my colors were too dark.. gave me a little trouble. Had to use some gouache to tone it down & to recover flesh tones.  The couple on the left is recognizable from a photo i took years ago in my home town, during a street fair.. Right side is out of my imagination..

Support Local Art

Oh  this was fun.  My purchases of local art.  The bison is an added touch.  it represents visual art, glass blowing art and wood carving art. it is acrylic and fits into another free frame.  I know, i am frugal.

Garden Guy SOLD in Langdon....

Ok, i hope i'm the only one that notices old paintings getting "add ons"  This painting had a John Deere tractor thingy in the lower left corner..  I just wanted to paint my loose sunflowers somewhere.  Gives it a whole different vibe, for sure.

Lakeside Sold at Gallery4 8-21

oh yes, i'm in the "redoing" phase again..  i changed the background on this and made it more Lakey...  Didn't like the fence and greenery ..
Yes, this feels good.    we are getting tons of snow again today..  I WANT to sit in those chairs, by the lake..

Suggestion from a dear friend to "get rid of the plant"..  SO i did..  much better and can i count this as a "new" painting??    i think so.
