Cool Whip Holiday

I painted this dessert many years ago and thought I'd redo it in different colors.  It looks a bit wonky on the plate but that is abstract..   huh??

Can't leave old paintings along..  added more stars..  the photo is pale..

A Roll in the Hay

Another acrylic on (larger than i am used to) canvas.  I had the title before it was done. I painted the sky holding the canvas upside down and was stunned by it when i turned it around.. whee.  what fun.  painting is more colorful than the photo..   !! ??

Succulents in the Wild

Not sure why i'm having trouble photographing these acrylic paintings.  this is darker that should be.. Oh well.  I used a photo Mike sent me from Colorado this summer for reference.  Didn't think succulents grew out in the wild.  the yellow area is all dandelions.  The blue was kept because it complimented the greens.. it is not water.  It is " abstract " water..  tee hee.

2-12-24   i brought this one home and reworked it..  added more value and color to the path and water.  And changed the title..

The Homesteads

I painted these in oil back in the 70's, no dates written down, of course.  They are of the homesteads of my hubby, Carl's grandparents.  top one is the Koehmstedt homestead and other is the Boesl family.  i plan to pass them on to some lucky relative.  The wires on the back were put on with staples and thumb tacks but it worked for 50 years.  geez i'm old..

De-Motorized

i painted this yesterday using a really old photo image taken on the Kartes Farm in the 70's.  I thought it was kinda sweet to use my winter-green mints to gage the size of the tires.  titles submitted by my sons "Mint Condition"  "Those Tires are Sweet"  So it goes..

"Needs Work!"

Oh I love that Quinacridone Gold watercolor paint.  i've painted this house a couple of times. Photo was taken in Oregon so there was a mountain in background, but i like the desolate feel.

Moved into town Sold at G4 10-2-23

What can i say?  Title tells it all.  I used a photo i took of a deserted house in the 80's. i knew the family that lived there, in fact i dreamt about them the night after i painted this.  how weird is that?, Also, how weird am I?

What the Shell??

#3 of my 10x10 s..   i painted this turtle a couple of years ago, mostly yellow and green, if i remember right. I love this and how it looks like a quilt.  bought some nice 10x10 frames at Michael's yesterday.
I know, weird subject matter, but it IS subject matter.

2-24   took this painting to Cormorant to be exhibited in D.L. in a poetry inspired show.

Twisted Lilies or "Up Close and Floral"

9-1-23  I guess this painting needed more work, since it was rejected from a show at the mall that had "color" in it's theme title..  dah  .  i had fun adding and subtracting some color and adding some tiny dots.

Never liked this painting so when i brought it home, i added some purple, wouldn't any one??  ha
so much better

Another 10"x 10" work.  i used a photo i took looking down on the flowers that my hubby took care of.  I am not gardener, i repeat, i am not a gardener.  Also, my signatures are always a bit off kilter, maybe that is my signature.

The Bull in Bullfrog

i bought some 10x10 canvas boards, painted them bright colors, now what!!!   I've painted this frog before. Loved using secondary colors. Rock  is painted mostly with palette knife.  Painting is much brighter than photo.

Log Bridge Sold at CAAC show '23

2-23  i brought this painting home and decided to add a 'purple mountain majesty' to the space in middle of scene.  there was just too much blue.  Better..

Theme wall for Oct is Bridges..  while looking thru photos we took in Oregon, over the years, i thought this would work.  I seem to enjoy painting water, i painted the canvas all Cobalt Blue.  It is a bit strong but so it goes.  the Red Oxide i used for the logs really looks "boss" as they say.   who says that??  i don't know.
WOW, this frame is wonderful on it. i also added more white to the rapids.  Photos don't tell the color truth.. It is necessary to see art in person, right????

Road to Toad Mountain ( Sold to a G4 member. that is a big deal.)

Oversized idea is taking over my loose mind.  this is so fun.  liven up rather dull paintings with a creature, of sorts.

There are 6-7 fans that visit my new posts each time it put one up..  Who are you???

Windy, Shady SOLD AT CAAC show '23

Used a photo of my neighbor's chairs for reference for this watercolor. They have 6 of them, all wonderful colors.  I used some of the tips from last workshop i took to make the various greens.  It was weird to leave the background mostly white.  Could add a huge frog or chicken, i suppose.

outside, inside 8-5-22 sold to friend at Gallery4 today

A complete redo on this one.  painted a couple of years ago.  was titled Blue Bottle or something bland like that..  entered it in shows, did the whole routine..  loved the brick and window. hated the white flowers and the white frame.  Since 'animals' seem to be loved by all, i added these sweet, cunning  creatures..   painted the frame with leftover paint,  enjoyed it

grain bin picker

I did it again. Big Moa strikes again.   Acrylic chicken added to a watercolor.  oh yes.

Six Trees 1/18/23 SOLD at G4 today

Another tree painting from the workshop i just took.  When i framed it with a black matt and grey frame, it looked really good.  whaa laa...

Lucy'ville returned

I had sold this to a friend many years ago and she is "downsizing" drastically and returned it to me.  It is titled Lucyville because dear friend, Lucy, started this painting after she had taken a trip to Europe and she gave it to me to finish (I added most of the people, finished the buildings mostly and the background & sky)  love it.

My Pond SOLD

Another workshop painting..  Granddaughter showed me a Tic Toc video of an artist adding large images to otherwise calm boring paintings.. wa laa..   got this idea.   what fun i have ..

Church has "let out"

This one from workshop turned out OK, i worked on it after i got home, of course.  placement of autos is weird, church looks like a space rocket of sorts.  OTHERWISE, it's interesting.   google Michael Holter and see his technic and results.. incredible..

OK,  i just couldn't leave it alone.  I really liked the loose people images on this painting.  i don't mean they were "loose" people and had to go to church to be saved..  ANYWAY  i framed it in 11x14 size and it is cool.

workshop results

Just finished a 4 day landscape workshop with Michael Holter as the instructor.  It was really fun and hot (the church where it was held didn't have A/C.). but we survived.  he gave wonderful demos and we attempted to use some similar images and colors.  3 of my paintings have already "gone to the sink" as they say..

Is 3 enuff for a series??   whatever!!   fun doing the mist..  had to google it and learned the difference between Zinc White and Titanium White,  Who knew...

"Toast to the Sun" 11-21-22 Sold at Gallery4

Another 8x8 acrylic.  i'm kinda doing a series. i draw my old lawn chairs and go from there.  using limited amount of colors.

"missed it" Sold at Gallery4

Yes, they missed the sunset, chairs are MT.   this is a 8x8 acrylic, i have painted the lawn chairs a few times.  I have them on my patio and i love the shapes of them...  i don't sit in them tho.. they are hard on the butt.  i like the fact that the chair is "close to the edge".

Blowin' in the Wind

Revisited this mixed media painting from a few years ago. (free frame event)   Had a square matt cut to fit it and got rid of one of the items on the clothes line..  Remember clothes lines???

Uptown Goat 12-26-22 heard that it sold today..

Isn't she classy??  I will be entering her in the BAGA ( in Bismarck) square foot show later this summer.  So wonderful to paint in Acrylics, the colors excite me.
11-1-22 Took her home and changed the background.. not sure if it was an improvement or not..

What the Hay ! !! or "Where is the Hay?? !

5-1-23  I brought this painting home from the Gallery and changed some of the coloring, i personally liked the reddish spritzy look but it is better with yellow ochre "cover up".  also whitened the cloud formations.

What can i say??  i used an old photo of Vettel's cows for reference.  i painted the canvas with left-over acrylic paint and looked at it for a couple of weeks.  I loved the top 1/2 of the canvas as it was.  not sure if i'm done. Planned to add some hay.. maybe not..

Red Sky (Commission)

I finished this commission for an Oregon friend.  Just heard today that it got there and she loves it.

Since it is larger than most paintings i do i dug out my "staydry" palette and it worked great. in fact, i painted the Franks Ford and Big Rock using some of the same paint,  I really enjoy painting the canvas one color and painting images over it.

"IF Frank Stella had a Ford" 1-13-23 SOLD at G4

Another theme wall at Gallery4 will be Inspired by Frank Stella.  Wah La.  I used paint left over from a commission i did for a friend in Oregon.  I won't post that one until she gets it by UPS this week ..

.( I've seen Frank Stella's original work at art museums  in Portland and Seattle.)

Big Rock Tulip Garden 6/2/22 Sold to friend, Marge, at Gallery 4

This large free canvas has been staring at me. I really enjoyed painting this in Acrylic, loosely using a photo of granddaughters as a reference. Don't paint florals very often but like painting ROCKS..  what the hay?   I put this image on FB story and it caught Marge's eye..   makes me happy..

"Wheels on the Bus go Round"

The theme for next month is "Wheels" . the song "wheels on the bus, go round and round" is stuck in my pea brain. i spent more hours looking for this photo of grandson, Jonathan, than it took me to paint it in

watercolor.  Jonathan's little girls are that age now. I think this was taken on his first day of school.

commission VW

i got a request by text message, asking me to paint this as a gift. She is a friend of my daughter.  I'm not crazy about doing commissions but when i saw this photo she sent, i fell for it.  it was really fun.  hope she likes it.

"Where the Big Boats Float" 9-'22 Sold at Gallery4

References from several photos i took in the 90's in California.  Tried to be really "loose" but that usually fails.  photo is pale compared to the painting.   Kinda like the results, tho.

Monday, March 7, 2022

Peace, Please 7-23-22 sold this at gallery4 today to a sweet couple from Wyoming ..

I've been thinking about the theme wall subjects for this summer at Gallery4.  "Black and White and everything in between" is one.  i drew the circle by setting my coffee cup on the canvas and wha la.. off i went.   A bit different technique than the last couple of paintings

I had daisy on my mind but it could be a sunflower.

"Assessing the Damage"

I used a photo that was posted on a FB site from my home town, as reference for this. I'd love to know who took the original photo and what year it was.  I'm thinking in the 50's or 60's.  I knew these guys way back when.  I so loved their stance, clothing, hats.  After i put the background in, it kinda looked like they were insurance adjustors.  I really love painting folks, as i've said before.

So, Who's Your Feather Dresser?? titled changed to "Crow Envy"

I did this acrylic painting to enter into the Spirit Room Crow Show this year.  They hold this show  every other year and it is always fun plus interesting 'cause crows are almost as intelligent as mankind, don't ya' know.

quiet @ da lake sold at CAAC show "22

This painting is impossible to photograph.  I had painted background and spritzed it and let it run.. I liked the look of it but it needed "subject matter", don't ya' know..   original is so much more colorful.   it was fun/stressy to paint.
