My Bros

I did this in Watercolor recently using a photo from the 90's for reference. .
I did NOT use AI, did NOT use computer aids, did NOT use a projector, did NOT use tracing paper,
I DO know how to draw FREE HAND.  I know that is an old term in the art world.
Any way, I love it.

Red are the Lilies

I really stretched my watercolor tactics on these.  reference was a photo i took (in the 90's)  of Carl's flowers.   Painted using Cad Red, Carmine and Gamboge pigment for the lilies.  decided to leave the background white ..background on photo was really dark, almost black..   ugh

Fuchsia, Fa La La

This fabulous fuchsia was hanging around in my son's year in Oregon last summer when we visited.  i took a photo and used it as reference for this acrylic work.  the background was from my weird mind, using Hooker's Green.  It is a tough pigment to control and obviously to photograph.

Paintings from the 90's

My Friend Hazel and her daughter, Ruth, purchased these paintings 20 some years ago.  Hazel sold her house and moved to assist living  AND I got them back.  I cropped and reframed them today.  need titles..

I've always thought those were Cornflowers and thought about calling it Corny-flowers.. but i realized they are coneflowers. thanks google. . where is the humor in that??

Rear Doors

Hard to explain where the idea of this came from. I did see a painting on the PC of a pinkish wall with blue door and window plus lots of flowers.  I liked the feeling it had.   This is done is Acrylic. I also think the interiors that Van Gogh did stick in my psyche. (Whatever, sounds good)

Cold, but Calm

I've been looking thru old photos of my old paintings for ideas.  This turned out really emotional for me for some reason.  Turned out way different than the watercolor I did in the 80's that i used for reference.  But I think just remembering my art journey gets me teary.  The artists and friends I've met and still have.  sigh!!!

"Accessories from Long Ago" Sold off Facebook to friend

I volunteered to do a demo during the studio crawl at G4.  it was fun but had more comments about my glasses matching my shirt than about my watercolor technique.  not surprised!

I added the hats and mannequins in back after i got back to my studio, listening to Classical MPR ..

Once in a Blue Moon

I stopped my car and took a photo of this cloud formation while driving on University Dr. a while ago.    The theme for Nov at G4 is "Space, Moon Stars "  So I am ready.

Acrylic painting done in one afternoon, after hearing that my sweet cousin, Janice, is being put on Hospice.  Creating art does get one through the day, sometimes.

Wyeth by Judi Traded for hand made doll.

My turn to put on the program for HAGS, I talked about Andrew Wyeth and his wonderful art.  Then Donna C suggested we each paint something like our favorite artists and put them in the display window at the Hjemkomst Center next month.  This was fun.  Seeing his show in Seattle with my nephew and his family was SO wonderful. Lucky me

Rocks and Roll 2 (first Posted in April "24)

I just had to change the background on this painting, colors were dirty looking.. .  I covered it with gouache and "oh my" what an improvement.  (Had to go into my studio and look/see how to spell gouache again)

I just watched a video of Bob Dylan singing "Like a Rolling Stone" and thought that would be a good title as well.  Art and Music are so important to me, as are Pot Stickers, Pirate's Booty Puffs, Cashews and my family.  Life is good.

Three 8" X 8" Van Goghs #3 sold at G4

Painted these to decorate a dinner table at the "Art Over Dinner" event at Cormorant Village this week. It was so fun.  and I'm sure the dinner will be as much fun.  A great group of artist, eating, drinking and talking smart art, how can it not be?
Our Starry Starry Night table was so cool.  The dinner, live music and speaker were all excellent.  As was the company we had at our table.  Thanks Donna, Paula and Vicki for such s fun evening.

White Flora

Someone gave me this frame back cause they reframed a painting of mine.  it is 8x10.  I tried painting a different background on this and only used 3 colors and white.  It is Acrylic.  Plus to painting florals: can't really make a boo boo.

Hat Check

Since i have been looking at Van Gogh's art, and the yellow chair seemed to have entered my psyche and i had this canvas with the checkered pattern, i painted this yesterday.  a bit off beat but SO fun.  Using some of my bright pigments as usual.

2 Boats and a Bird 9-16-24 SOLD at G4 today

I seem to have fallen in love with my Phthalo Blue Acrylic Paint, mixed with white it's so lovely.  Covered this 11x14 canvas with it.   Googled some boats and sketched the tippy one off a photo. Loved it, added other one, some rocks and a gull to show that the water is shallow.   That's my story and i'm sticking to it.
This proves that where you photograph a piece of art effects outcome.  This one taken in my studio by south window on cloudy day.  Top one outside on North side of house..   spooky.

Salsa and Friends

What happens when i get bored.  I looked thru some old sketch books, found a little watercolor I did at Mexican Village years ago. and i redid it in Acrylic.  Of course my canvas was already painted cobalt.  ANYWAY, i spent most of the time painting the  nacho chips. They looked like tater tots and I couldn't have that. ..

Green House Over There 12-3-24 Sold to neighbor, Kayla.

This is a 8x8 acrylic that i painted one afternoon, as i was waiting for out of town company.  I just looked out my studio window and painted the window across the street and the door is from another neighbor's house.  I had fun playing with the greens, and the rocks..

Sitting is so Under-rated"

I sketched this one of  my chair, while sitting in my other chair.

I first learned how to do watercolor by painting furniture and by wetting each shape b/4 applying the pigment.  Theme for July at G4 is "Escape Room " I made up the plant, as you all probably know, plants don't survive here in my Sitting Room.

"I"ll have what he's having" Gifted to nephew Joe

sketched these faces awhile ago in my tablet of w/c paper, using a photo i took 30 years ago at the Dresden museum sausage breakfast.  I painted it last night and it developed into this.  Title cracks me up, not sure why.

See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil!

I painted this "Three is a Pear" painting in 2010.  it was gifted to a family member until 3 years ago, when i got it back.  I have exhibited it at the gallery and in several shows.  Yesterday I brought it home and today I messed it up real good, but had a giggling good time doing it. It is Acrylic.

5-5-24  Today i changed the title.  there is a lot of evil that is ignore and accepted in our society..

lunch crowd ( revisited )

Moving art around at G4 this month.  Brought this home and gave it the hack saw treatment ..  had a 11"x 14" matt with a tish of green..  i added a tish of green to painting ..  always sad to cut up a watercolor but "oh well"..  it's cozier, if nothing else..

Rocks and Roll

As reference for this, i used my photo of Oregon rocks (that had been polished by the sea) ..  I spritzed & speckled the paper first and sketched the rocks on where the colors matched , kinda..  It turned out better than i thought it would.  it is watercolor.

Needs Work and Love (revisited)

9- '24    I just had to change that sad, sad tree.  I gave it many more branches, and used my rigger brush to add more twigs.  I so love the gold tones in this work.

Painted this awhile ago but felt it needed more than work and love, so today I took it out of the frame and fiddled (like i do) with it, added a sad tree and more fencing.  and more color.  What fun.

Behind Purple Doors Title chgd to "Not Lost" 10-15-24 SOLD @ G4

Oh yes, had some magenta (from iris painting)  left on my palette..  and some 11"x14" canvas boards that needed to be primed.  i love painting doors and windows. tried to make it look old and weathered.  love the doors but not sure about the window..  geez
7-24.  felt that this needed a "narrative" aspect to it.  Added a clean white kitty.. ugh!!

2 Irises With a B

8-'24  Another case of loving a background and having it not do much for the painting.  I added some ghost images and WHAT??  a bumble bee??

Flower Power, huh?  .  i plan to put a free frame on it.  planned to spray paint wood frame white and it took me an hour to get the lid off the spray can..  longer that it took me to paint the irises..

draw-me

added color and specs  yes, I know they are askew..

fun day.  we had a mini workshop with the infamous Jackie Anderson, drawing our portraits using a hand mirror.   What a variety of artwork there was at the end of the session.  i spent more time on my earrings, than on my wrinkles..

Nature's Touch Down

Had this free canvas that was painted really blue for awhile..

On the trip back home from Hawley art show last week, the sunset was so spectacular that i just had to paint what was in my memory of it.   Well, i had planned to put the infamous farm scene in foreground..  but i decided to paint it ochre-ish first.  I spritzed it for some reason and got those little ghost trees..    Happy accident???

Purple Faire (revisited)

I painted this a while ago.. took it out of the frame/matt and saw that it is square..  more background..  i darkened and lightened areas, added more color..   i may frame it square.  have always loved it.

Bloomin' Early

I painted this Saturday during my stint at West Acres Mall.  i dug up some old photos  of our irises for reference .. I visited with a lot of folks at the mall.  It was fun, as usual.

White of the paper usually does not photograph well.. ugh..   but I photographed this outside so flash wasn't as strong ..  yes, outside...

Willie-Nillie Gifted

i painted this at West Acres Mall in the art room where G4 members are exhibiting for a month.  We are taking turns demo-ing.. is that a word?  anyway, this looks like Willie is going in for a colonoscope, by the expression on his face.. not my best work..

Crow Envy 2 new title "Assessing Air Quality" 9-5-24 Donated

I remodeled my Crow Envy that i painted a couple of year ago for the Crow Show at the Spirit room.  They needed something added.  My friend Marcy suggested hats and i went for it.  also redid the background.

i thought about calling them Jim and Donald Crow.  but i opted not to..   eek

Wonky Waters

Started out as something to do while at the weekly get together at the Hjemkomst.  i sketched the boats off my phone photo of Nova Scotia painting.   tried to keep it watery and loose.. "Good Luck with that Judi.."

"No Pancakes For You !"

Oh my, this was fun.  Saw a photo of Edith Bunker on a YouTube reel, sitting in my kitchen from the 70's.  I sketched her body language and went crazy with the colors i remember from that era.  yes, we had  avocado and gold appliances and BR fixtures in our first house.  and table cloths and curtains..

Green is the Chair 8-13-24 Sold at G4

My small bird paintings have not flown out into the world..  i painted this over Dad Bird.  Chair is really green.  in fact, i made scrambled eggs for lunch today and there was a green speck in it.. Spinach?? no.  Broccoli?  no, no.  It was a bit of sap green acrylic from under my fingernails..

Gnome with grass and weeds

this is weird...  i painted this gnome a couple of years ago, during my gnome period..  Showed it around in shows, and at G4..   ANYWAY, today i added the grass and the weed.  Since he already had the mushroom..   He is probably high.   teehee.

Casino Gals with new frame

Brought this favorite watercolor out of hiding .. the frame was white and kinda ugly.  I mixed up some acrylic to match some of the greens in the painting and went for it.  .  I know i have always insisted that the frame doesn't count in the scheme of things, but this was fun.

Nova Scotia-esque

Our theme for Feb at G4 is Bucket List.  Since my bucket list has a hole in the bottom, i chose Nova Scotia because it's been on Carl and my list forever and we didn't get there.  i googled a lot of paintings and photos of NS and sketched some of the buildings and boats that apparently are in Peggy's Cove.  Love the primary colors.
photo isn't very good 'cause i framed it b/4 i took the photo..   FORGETFUL is the word of the day..

Storm Clouds Pending Sold at BAGA, Bismarck

Another square foot entry for Bismarck Show in May. Used a couple of my cloud photos as reference.  I had used the 1/2 barn idea before.  this is acrylic and kinda startling.
